NRF forecasts one percent decline in holiday sales

NRF released its holiday forecast, projecting holiday retail sales to decline one percent. For more details about historical sales, employment info and shopping tips, check out NRF’s Holiday Survival Kit.

NRF’s Ellen Davis spoke to CNBC about the outlook for the holiday season and what this means for both retailers and consumers. Davis said “retailers know the best way to bring consumers into the store is price, so we’re expecting a lot of these aggressive sales to start soon.”

    We are gearing up for this decline in sales by adding more low cost or single item gifts to our line such as teddy bears, small candy gifts, etc. We plan to still offer the large gifts but want to make sure we have all budgets represented.
