In his opening remarks at Retail’s BIG Show this morning, NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay shared stats on NRF’s successes in 2012 as well as his vision for what’s next for the industry. Specifically, Shay touted accomplishments ranging from the addition of 1,000 new members to increasing political influence in Washington. He also provided analysis on the current state of gridlock in Washington and asked politicians from both sides of the aisle to come together and work for solutions that focus on achieving meaningful growth in the economy.
But Shay’s most notable point was not about politics or NRF; it was about how retail is so much more than what customers see inside stores. Off the heels of a very successful Retail Means Jobs campaign and This is Retail video contest, Shay and the NRF team will turn their attention to highlighting the value of the industry’s impact on careers, community and innovation.
