With retailers closing the books on the back-to-school season and Congress out of session for several weeks in a row, the month of August is generally quiet in retail. But there were still plenty of resources on NRF’s website and retail articles that drew attention. In case you happened to be one of the millions on vacation at some point last month, here’s what you missed:
NRF information:
- For most parents and retailers, the month of August means winding up for the beginning of school. Our web visitors did just that last month, taking advantage of back-to-school resources including our consumer spending survey, back-to-school headquarters, trends and charts, and the most recent back-to-school update on consumer intentions.
- The East Coast wasn’t the only thing sizzling last month. In fact, STORES’s annual ranking of the Hot 100 retailers garnered plenty of interest on who rode out the recession on a high note – and which companies to watch in the future.
- Moms of 8-12 year-olds are more plugged in than other adults, according to a new survey on Moms of Tweens conducted for RAMA by BIGresearch. What else differentiates this group of women from others? Find out here.
- How have Wal-Mart’s shoppers gained more value from the company’s current sustainability efforts? That’s one of the questions that will be answered on an upcoming sustainability webinar featuring Wal-Mart and SAP and presented by our Sustainable Retailing Consortium. Even though the webinar is won’t be held until later this month, so many people have already signed up that the registration page was one of the most popular areas of our site last month. (Haven’t registered yet? This webinar isn’t until Sept. 29, so there’s plenty of time!)
- A white paper, peer-reviewed by NRF’s Associate Member Advisory Council, on “Staying Ahead of the Curve” of recession consumer spending trends.
