Los Angeles boasts major victory in fighting ORC

On Thursday afternoon, retailers in Los Angeles received some welcome news.  The Los Angeles Police Department brought down a notorious ORC ring known as the Hernandez Operation. The group is responsible for stealing at least $6 million worth of baby formula, diapers, health and beauty products and over-the-counter medications.

The LAPD Major Crimes Division personnel obtained arrest and search warrants for six persons and 15 locations associated with the enterprise. Four specific bank accounts have shown hundreds of thousands of dollars of transactions during the past several months.  The members arrested are charged with various crimes that include grand theft, commercial burglary, receiving stolen property, conspiracy, wire fraud and money laundering.

For months, the LAPD has been working with members of the Los Angeles Area Organized Retail Crimes Association (LAAORCA), a local public-private sector partnership, the United States Department of Agriculture, Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Internal Revenue Service to track and finally apprehend these criminals.

Organized retail crime continues to plague the nation and LAPD has worked their fair share of cases.  ORC cases can prove to be a dangerous threat to innocent consumers interested in buying baby formula and health products.

On behalf of retailers, a big thank you for the hard work and dedication of the LAPD and their partners.
