Surrounded by his peers, Detective Chris Rollan of the Helena Police Department in Alabama was honored this morning by NRF and the loss prevention community with the Law Enforcement Retail Partnership Award, which recognizes a law enforcement officer who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in helping the retail industry resolve a major incident. This year’s award winner serves as an incredible example of how one committed officer can make a huge impact on both retailers’ bottom line and customers’ peace of mind.

In the below video, Lifeway Christian Stores‘ Melissa Mitchell presents the award and explains how, in just one month, Detective Rollan resolved 16 violent armed robberies that had plagued the Birmingham area throughout 2009. In the video, watch the humble Rollan accept the award and hear his thoughts on the case, who helped him along the way, and why he really “took it personally.”

The Alabama Retail Association joins the National Retail Federation in congratulating and thanking Detective Rollan for his efforts to protect Winn Dixie customers and employees from those intent on doing harm. Alabama’s retail community is grateful to the 13,000-plus law enforcement officers in Alabama who daily perform an invaluable service for retailers throughout our state.
