On Saturday afternoon following a foot chase and physical struggle with an alleged shoplifter, White Plains Police Officer Michael Perry, 43, died in the line of duty.
Officer Perry, while working foot patrol, was originally contacted by a Macy’s LP detective. While walking the suspect into police headquarters following the pursuit, he experienced chest pains. While walking to an ambulance, he collapsed and was pronounced dead. According to the Police Commissioner, it was the first line-of-duty death for the department in 60 years.
Officer Perry leaves behind a wife and two sons.
While the role of law enforcement, or loss prevention, has never been risk-free, it’s a tragedy to lose a dedicated officer. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Perry family.
