Harry’s gamble: keep it moving before people notice

Senate Majority Leader Reid is beginning to act a little like a fish monger at closing time.  Better hose down the shop quickly or the smell may frighten the neighbors.  Reid’s rush to pass health reform legislation before Christmas stinks a little bit, too.  “Making history” is a thin argument to make while pushing legislation prematurely to a conclusion. Not every historical event is a positive one….

Poll after poll demonstrates that the more people learn about the Senate health care bill (H.R. 3590, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act), the less they like it.  A majority in most polls now oppose it.

Sen. Reid has been arbitrarily pushing the Senate to act before Christmas, reportedly targeting final passage for Christmas Eve. Bah, humbug Senator Reid!  The first vote to cut off debate (to invoke cloture) will apparently take place at 1:00am ET Monday (Dec. 21) morning.  What is Sen. Reid hiding?  Doesn’t he want the general public to know what he is up to?

The National Retail Federation (NRF) issued a key vote letter in opposition to H.R. 3590 today.  Follow the link to our press release on the letter – there is a second link on the release to the letter itself.

Please tell Sen. Reid to slow down and get health care done right.  There is a brand new year to work on just around the corner … and I’ll bet there are quite a few Senators who have some last minute shopping to get done.  Let the U.S. Senate go home….
